After starting the season in La Santa in early December we returned home to spend Christmas and prepare for the start of the 2013 season. I ended the year as I always like to do running the San Silvestre and enjoying the family and good friends atmosphere. After the New Year as every year we migrated to our favorite island and in just over a two hours flight we left the winter in Vitoria-Gasteiz and arrived to the summer climate of Lanzarote. The first few days the island welcomed us with wind and «Calima» but then things improved and we are enjoying spectacular days with sunshine, pleasant temperatures and little wind.
I begin my fourth week of «serious» training and what better place to train in winter than in Lanzarote and La Santa. The workouts in Vitoria-Gasteiz were conditioned by the scaphoid fracture, I did all the bike training on the Velotron, a few days before coming to La Santa I could remove the plastic splint and I’ve been able to do my first rides on the road here in Lanzarote. I still have some slight discomfort in the wrist but I can ride my bike and the swim and the run has been normal.
This weeks are being pretty intense workouts, especially on the bike, more than what I was used so far and it shows in the legs. Today I woke up wasted, so I took an easy morning with an easy swim. In the evening I have planned a workout of hills running that I hope to do in conditions.
Like last year I’ll start my racing season in Abu Dhabi International Triathlon on March 2 and then we’ll probably go to Ironman Melbourne in search of the points I need for the Kona Pro Ranking. It is the same beginning of the season I did last year, from there my calendar will be conditioned by the points that I need to make sure the qualification for Kona so I have not decided anything yet.
It was hard for me start this season, the end of 2012 was not good in sports, the scaphoid fracture did not help the situation but now I’m back motivated and eager to train and face 2013 with renewed energy.
Greetings from Club La Santa!!
